Kids n' Kops

Kids N’ Kops is an award-winning, summer program, which is run in partnership with the Charlottetown Police Department.  For one week, two police officers, Big Brothers Big Sisters staff, and eleven children between the ages of 10-12, work and play together.

The children spend each morning at the Charlottetown Police Department learning about the role of the police in the community.  In the afternoon, the two police officers change out of their Police uniforms into Big Brothers Big Sisters T-shirts and everyone goes into the community to have lunch together, and to participate in a fun activity like playing baseball or making a beach chair.

The program strives to do the following:

  • teach children about the many aspects of police work so that they will develop a realistic concept of what police officers do
  • promote trust between local law enforcement and children through personal interaction
  • Allow children in the program to see that police officers are ordinary people who laugh, play and have fun with kids.
