Take A Little To The Legislature

25 'Littles' Matched For One Day To Island MLAs

Charlottetown, Tuesday April 12th– Today, Big Brothers Big Sisters of PEI matched 25 Island children to MLAs during the first ever ‘Take a Little to the Legislature’. The primary focus was to give children a better understanding of the democratic process in relation to governing on Prince Edward Island.

Three themes were explored on the day which include; running for election; voting; and governing. The children had the opportunity to learn the role of the MLA, as well as listen to presentations, ask questions and learn about the democratic process.

The party leaders talked about running for election, voting and governing from their perspectives. The children had the opportunity to have pizza lunch at Government House, and tour Opposition Office, Premier’s Office, and then to Province House where they witnessed the PEI Legislature in session.

“This has been a great opportunity for children to experience and witness the process of governing, decision-making, and the role of both parties in the house. Both the children and the MLAs had an experience they will never forget.”
